Distance Covered 33.7 KMS
Considered to be a pinnacle for most long distance open water swimmers, The English Channel is known to be the most gruelling swim both physically and mentally. Sufyan covered the distance from Dover to Calais in 12 hours which is his longest swim to date. To train for the English Channel swim, Sufyan had to train for 10 hours a day for 6 months prior to his crossing. To note, Sufyan had dislocated his knee a few months before swimming the channel; and even though he was advised to take a break for 6 months, Sufyan was back in the pool training for the swim after 2 weeks of rest. Sufyan created a World Record for being the youngest swimmer in the world to swim The English Channel for the year 2006 and was awarded the Audrey Scott Award by the Channel Swimming & Piloting Federation for doing so.
To keep him motivated, his mom carried the Indian national flag as a sign to encourage him to swim as a representative of India and its citizens and not for himself.
